As prescribed by state law, Republican precinct committee members from Ford County's 1st District will appoint a commissioner to replace Jerry King when he leaves near the end of the month.

Republican precinct committee members will elect a replacement to fill the 1st District county commission seat that will be vacated by Jerry King near the end of the month.

The convention will be held in the Rose Room of the Ford County Government Center at 100 Gunsmoke St. on Friday, Dec. 20, at 6:30 p.m. and will be open to the public.

Interested candidates must be registered Republicans and must reside in the district.

The appointee will be selected by a majority vote by precinct committeemen and committeewomen. If a candidate does not receive a majority of the vote, additional rounds of voting will occur.

Committee members unable to attend the convention can transfer their votes to a proxy. Each committee member in attendance can carry up to two proxy votes.

Jerry King, who was elected in 2011, is vacating the seat to take a general manager position at an electricity co-op in North Dakota. His last day in office will be Dec. 27.
