  • The Dodge City Red Demons were able to slow down the Eisenhower Tigers in the first half, but the host squad was able to get their offense going in the second half. Eisenhower scored 42 points after intermission on the way to handing the Demons a 74-57 setback in the final game before the Winter break. "Our kids battled. They're young, but they're coming," Hamilton said. "The experience we have with these kids will help them later on. This is their growing pains. "I told them that we have to continue battling and we have to do that in each and every practice. We had kids step up and go in the right direction. We just have to put two good halves together." Austin Weiser scored 18 points to lead Dodge City (1-4) in scoring, while Noah Williams added seven points for the Red Demons. The Tigers (5-0), ranked third in Class 5A, were led by Tyler Buchanan with 21 points, with Trevon Evans added 20 and Brennan Stemple 13 for the home victory. Eisenhower scored eight of the first 10 points of the game, but the Red Demons were able to battle back and tie the game late in the opening stanza before trailing 16-14 after eight minutes of play. The Demons tied the game early in the second quarter, but Eisenhower was able to push the lead up to seven for most of the stanza. A late Dodge City basket cut the deficit to 32-27 at halftime. The Tigers scored 13 of the first 15 points in the first three minutes of the third quarter to extend the lead to double digits. Eisenhower continued to roll on the offensive side of the game, extending the lead to as much as 25 before a late Demon run cut the margin to 61-40. Dodge City never got the margin closer than 15 points in the final quarter. The Red Demons will host Garden City in the first Western Athletic Conference contest of the season on Jan. 7 at the DCHS Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
