The Dodge City Lady Demons lost all three games last season to the Hays Lady Indians and there was a little bit of revenge factor going into Tuesday night's game at DCHS Fieldhouse. The Lady Demons responded by scoring the first 16 points of the game on the way to a 71-28 victory over the Lady Indians in Tuesday night Western Athletic Conference action. "We knew that Hays doesn't give up and that we'd have to push through all the way," said senior Katrina Roenfeldt, who led Dodge City with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting. "We knew we were a little bit faster and taller than they were, which doesn't happen that often, so we just pushed the ball up the floor as quickly as we could." Dodge City shot 25-of-43 after three quarters of play to build a 63-18 lead. Jessie Harshberger added 11 in the win, as eleven players scored for the Lady Demons with the home team even got a basket from a Hays player off a missed Dodge City free throw. The Lady Demons (4-4, 1-2 WAC) scored 18 points off turnovers and 14 more off second chance opportunities. Lady Demon head coach Kelley Snodgrass was also pleased with the way her team played against the winless Lady Indians (0-10, 0-4), considering the possibility of the Dodge City girls overlooking their opponents in the contest. "They stepped out and hit some big shots early and it just kept rolling for us," Snodgrass said. "The girls made the extra pass and did a good job of finding their teammates. "I was very pleased with the great team effort and got some players who practice hard every day in there and got some action from them, as well." Dodge City led 20-6 after the opening quarter and extended the lead to 43-13 by halftime. The Lady Demons were 17-of-28 from the field (60.7 percent), while Hays was 5-of-25. Lady Indians' leading scorer Audra Schmeidler scored all eight of her points in the first half. The Lady Demons continued to dominate in the third quarter by allowing only two Hays field goals in a 20-5 stanza, with Dodge City's largest lead being 46 points late in the stanza. Dodge City's next action will be next week for three games at the Lady Railer Invitational in Newton.
