Ford County resident Laurie Mischelle Clare, 44, was found guilty of one count of theft and one count of forgery
Ford County resident Laurie Mischelle Clare, 44, was found guilty of one count of theft and one count of forgery Friday after she admitted embezzling more than $100,000 from G&G Car and Truck Supercenter.
The embezzlement occurred on or between Feb. 2, 2008 and Feb. 2, 2013. A check was altered with the intent to defraud on or about Feb. 16, 2013.
Clare initially pled not guilty to both counts at an arraignment Dec. 6, 2013, and the case was set for a three-day jury trial for April of this year, but she accepted a plea agreement Friday, admitting guilt for both crimes.
According to Assistant Ford Co Attorney Kevin B. Salzman as part of the plea agreement, it will be recommended that the defendant's sentence for both counts run concurrently and she serve a 60-day sentence with the Ford County Detention Center.
A staff member at the local dealership confirmed that Clare had been employed at G&G Car and Truck Supercenter for approximately 14 years as a title clerk. She was terminated by her employer in early February.
The defendant is currently free on a $5,000 bond, her sentencing hearing is scheduled for a later date.
