  • The Dodge City Red Demons run-ruled the Colby Eagles in both games of a road doubleheader in the season opener for both squads.
The Red Demons beat the Eagles 20-2 in four innings to claim the opener, then beat Colby 13-3 in five innings to claim the nightcap.
"This is a very good way to start the season," said Dodge City head coach Daniel Rogers. "We came out and basically play as good as we could the first game. We had a good approach at the plate and didn't give them a lot of easy outs.
"We came out not as focused in game two and after a bad first inning, I kind of gathered the troops and we played well the rest of the game."
Austin Weiser struck out six in 3 2/3 innings to earn the victory in the first game. He gave up three hits in the game.
Weiser also had a big outing at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Dawson Davis was 3-for-4 with three runs and a RBI, while Drew Chance was 2-for-3 with three runs and a RBI.
Andrew Balderaz hurled a complete five-inning game in the nightcap for Dodge City, striking out five and allowing seven hits to earn the decision.
Weiser was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, while Davis was 1-for-1 with a bases-loaded triple and three walks.
The Red Demons will host their first home doubleheader next Tuesday in a Western Athletic Conference showdown against the Hays Indians. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Demon Field.
