The Dodge City Athletics took an early lead but couldn't hold it in losing to the Liberal BeeJays 10-3 in Jayhawk League action at Cavalier Field.
Liberal scored in eight of the nine innings on the way to the victory.
The Athletics' only runs came in the second inning on a solo home run by Dan O'Neill, a RBI single by Brad Jarreau, and Kevin Phillips walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. All of the runs were charged to eventual winning pitcher Justin Schnedler.
Liberal (13-13, 5-11) had taken the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a home run by Zach Reding before the Athletics (9-11, 4-11) came back with their rally.
The BeeJays cut the lead to 3-2 in the third on a RBI single by Brennan Johnson. Liberal made the score 4-3 in the fourth on a RBI groundout by Alec Isaac and Kyle Lieser scoring on a wild pitch from Dodge City losing pitcher Kevin Marmon.
Errors by the Athletics gave three of the next four runs scored by the BeeJays, and a balk charged against reliever Jordan Cavazos with a runner at third base accounted for the other run.
Seth Stevens made the score 9-3 with a RBI in the eighth and Liberal scored its final run on another groundout from Isaac in the ninth.
The Athletics return to action this weekend with a three-game road series against the Wellington Heat. There will be single games Friday through Sunday with each game starting at 7 p.m.
