The Dodge City Community College Conquistador volleyball team lost its fourth conference match of its last five Monday in Pratt against the Beavers.
The Dodge City Community College Conquistador volleyball team took a three-set victory in a home match against Lamar (Colo.) CC Runnin' Lopes Tuesday that may have been more about preparation for Thursday's Jayhawk Conference match in Liberal against the Seward County CC Saints.
"Our defense and our passing carried us through this one," said Conqs coach Shaun Pohlman, whose team won 25-21, 25-9 and 25-19.
The Dodge City Community College men's golf team won the Sterling College Warrior Invitational Monday in Hutchinson. Kansas City, Kan. CC finished second and Sterling College placed third.
Sophomore Tyler Henderson won the tournament in a playoff and shot a 154 over the 36-hole event.
The rest of the Conqs' scoring players were freshmen. Erik Hilde shot 161, Anders Engell shot a 164 and Kristian Uggen shot 168.
The DCCC volleyball team went 2-2 in the Hesston CC invitational tournament Saturday and Sunday. They beat Hesston in three sets and Allen County in four sets before losing to Brookhaven College in five sets in Sunday's first match.
They followed the loss with another four-setter to familiar opponent Otero, Colo. CC. The team's record is 15-12 after Sunday's action.
The Conqs play Lamar, Colo. CC Tuesday in a 6:30 p.m. match at home.
It's hard to say that an 0-5 team took a step forward in a homecoming loss, but the Dodge City Community College Conquistador football team may have come as close to that dubious feat as any team can in its 17-7 loss Saturday to the Air Force Prep Huskies at Memorial Stadium.
The loss dropped the Conqs to a 0-5 record (0-3 in the Jayhawk Conference), while Air Force Prep improved to 2-4 overall.
After giving up a touchdown to the Huskies on the Conq offense's second play from scrimmage, the score was almost immediately 7-0. Freshman quarterback Jean Julmiste threw what referees deemed a lateral pass that sophomore running back Quinton Robinson couldn't handle, and Husky strong safety Jared MacNaught scooped up the ball and trotted 10 yards for the game's first score.
After Thursday's second round of golf in Liberty, Mo., the Dodge City Community College women's golf team sits in second place in the tournament standings. Friday is the final round.
The Dodge City Community College Conquistador volleyball team had a week to gameplan for their home Jayhawk Conference match against the Colby CC Trojans Wednesday. After the team's four-set loss to Pratt a week ago, Dodge City came back and took care of business against Colby at the DCCC gymnasium in four sets to improve its record to 13-10 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
