DODGE CITY —

The USD 443 Board of Education amended the school district's budget for 2007-08 on Monday to account for a previously unbudgeted increase in special-education funding from the state, Board President Dan Reichenborn said Tuesday.
The Kansas State Department of Education notified the district that special education funding for fiscal year 2008 had increased. The figures exceeded the anticipated amount, meaning the district had to republish its budget for the special education fund.
The information from the state was included in a notice of a public hearing on amending the budget, which was published June 10 in the Daily Globe.
The additional state funding, which amounted to about $500,000, boosts the special education fund to about $7 million, Reichenborn said. The extra money will be passed through the fund to Special Education Co-op 613.
A budget amendment cannot lead to an increase in local taxes, according to information from the district.
