DODGE CITY —

When the Dodge City teachers union negotiated the terms of its early retirement plan with USD 443, its representatives agreed that the school board could end the plan whenever it chose to do so.
Tonight, district administrators will ask the board to do just that.
School board President Dan Reichenborn told the Globe Saturday that the Dodge City chapter of the Kansas NEA, a member of the huge National Education Association, agreed some eight to 10 years ago that the board's right to terminate early retirement was non-negotiable.
"No one will be grandfathered in. The only teachers who will be eligible are those who are either already at least 62 or will turn 62 next year," he said. "After next year, no one will be eligible for early retirement."
