Ten officers and board members of the Dodge City High School Kansas Association for Youth Club attended the Area 5 KAY Regional Conference on Nov. 5 at Jetmore High School.
The Club received the Red Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community and world for the 2007-2008 school year.
Paula Cabrera, a member of the DCHS KAY Club, was nominated to run for Area 5 President. Although she was not elected, she represented our local club admirably.
The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, leadership training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. This nationally acclaimed organization provides students an opportunity to learn to assume their citizenship responsibilities and to enrich their personalities through well-organized programs.
The theme for the 2008 Regional Conference was “Hooked on Leadership!” This conference affords opportunities for student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas. Sessions in leadership training and organizational skills are also offered. Delegates are inspired to return to their clubs to challenge their local members.
Local KAY members attending the Regional Conference were Cynthia Navarro, Vanessa Perez, Lindsay Berryhill, Paula Cabrera, Blaise Jensen, Rebecca Oberley, Leslie Gomez, Natalie Fuentes, Kenzie Schlegel, and Kelly Huynh. Accompanying the group were sponsor Alice Tallent and driver Magaly Razo.
