Washburn University student Jose Salazar of Dodge City will be among the musicians performing with the WU Symphony Orchestra, Payless ShoeSource Jazz Combo and a chamber music ensemble May 18 - 29 in several locations in Honduras.
An oboe player, Salazar also performed with the opera orchestras for “Die Fledermaus,” "The Gallantry" and "Trouble in Tahiti.” He is a junior majoring in music education.
The student musicians will perform in San Pedro Sula, Comayagua City and Tegucigalpa City. The repertoire will include "Concerto for Violin & Orchestra" by Benjamín Gutiérrez, "Symphony C Major" by Georges Bizet and the overture from the operetta “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss.
The trip includes sight seeing tours to the ancient Maya ruins of Copán and the Yojoa Lake National Park, as well as visits to Valle de Angeles colonial township and the coastal city of Tela.
