Walk a mile in someone's shoes before you judge them.
It's two things: sound advice and also the current exhibit at the 5.4.7. Arts Center in Greensburg.
"Walk a Mile," the traveling exhibit which was produced by Youthville's Psychiatric Residential Treatment program clients, recycles old shoes into works of art. The pieces were created by young artists to express their journey through the child welfare system.
"This is a fantastic exhibit," said Stacy Barnes, director of 5.4.7. "It's very moving to see these pieces and learn about the experiences that inspired them."
Each show is accompanied by text written by the artist. The text tells the student's story in their own words and explains what the symbols used in the piece mean.
"We have local folks who come in to see each new exhibit and many of them bring their visiting families too, and this summer we've had a lot of tourists," Barnes said.
The exhibit runs through Aug. 17 and the center's hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The center will host a closing reception for the exhibit from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Following its Greensburg appearance, the exhibit travels to the UNB Bank in Wichita and then to Kansas City.
The 5.4.7 Arts Center is located at 204 W. Wisconsin in Greensburg.
For more information, contact the center at (620) 723-2600.
