The Red Demons and Wichita Southeast Buffalos had a shoot out Friday night. And Dodge was the team left standing.
The Demons, who coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, took the night with a 69-46 win.
The incredible late summer heat was the only thing that could stop the Demon offense in the first
quarter. The Demons rumbled off to a 14-point lead to start the game. An exciting game from the start, the Demons were able to build a first quarter lead of 28-6 behind the three touchdowns of Parker Davis.
The second quarter belonged to the Buffalos. The Buffs scored three touchdowns of their own in
the second and at one point were able to pull within eight points of the Demons. With a last minute touchdown, Dodge finished the half with a 42-27 lead.
As the game continued the Demons clung to a 15-point lead. Scoring slowed to a realistic pace in the third quarter, despite the determination of both teams, which appeared winded at times as the temperature was still a spicy 87 degrees.
The tide would finally turn for the Mad Hatters in the fourth quarter. A forced turnover by Isaiah
Bradshaw’s interception with 6 minutes left would ice the game. Behind the 7 touchdown
performance of Parker Davis, Dodge City was able to secure the win.
“Offensively we executed well,” said head coach Dave Foster following the game.
He said he was eager to work with his staff to improve areas of concern for the next week. “Looking at film and finding what we can do to make our team better will be our goal for the next week. Improving our special teams and being more efficient at getting our defense off the field will also be goals for the week before meeting Wichita Northwest," Foster said.
Dodge City will host Wichita Northwest in their home opener on Friday September 9th.
