Sorry for missing out last week, faithful readers. One of our reporters left, leaving us a bit short staffed. That, coupled with the one-year anniversary of the Greensburg tornado, meant we've been running around trying to keep a quality paper coming out every day for you guys.
This week's is a bit short, but don't you worry, I've got some good irons in the fire right now. So, welcome back, and I hope you enjoy the stay.
Q: Is the city ever going to get around to landscaping those medians along Wyatt Earp? I was driving there the other day, and the wind picked up one of those rocks and cracked a window.
A: This is another one that I've had so many people asking me, I felt it warranted the attention.
According to city officials, landscaping along the eastern reconstruction of Wyatt Earp Boulevard is expected to begin this summer and take a couple of months.
Paul Lewis, director of Dodge City Parks and Recreation, which oversees the landscaping of the area, said the city was going to take the project out to bid within the next 60 days.
The landscaping, expected to stretch from the median between Second and Third avenues west to Seventh Avenue, will also cover landscaping from the curb to the train tracks along Wyatt Earp.
Lewis said the city has budgeted $147,000 for the project.
For those wanting to see what the medians are expected to look like, Lewis urged drivers to look at the medians east of Second Avenue.
"There are going to be some turf areas and some trees in the large medians," he said. "It's going to be very similar to what we've done before."
Lewis said because the project isn't very complex, it should be finished by fall of this year.
"It's not a huge endeavor," he said. "We think it will tie that whole core downtown area together."
