A Great Lakes Aviation plane waits on the tarmac at Dodge City Regional Airport. Dodge City officials said Wednesday that Great Lakes will continue providing direct flights from Dodge and Garden City to Kansas City. The federal government reversed course after issuing an order last month that would have ended Dodge's and Garden's status as dual-hub cities.

Dodge City is keeping its direct air service to Kansas City, at least for the next two years.
Dodge and Garden City were in danger of losing their flights to Kansas City under a recent order from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which had proposed dropping that service as of Oct. 1.
Under that arrangement, Great Lakes Aviation would have eliminated flights from Dodge and Garden to Kansas City but would have still provided air service to Denver.
Local officials discussed the decision with Great Lakes last week, and the air carrier agreed to submit an alternate plan that included some service to Kansas City, City Manager Ken Strobel told the Globe on Wednesday.
The result: A new plan in which Dodge and Garden will each have four round-trip flights to Denver and share one flight to Kansas City each weekday.
