A Dodge City man who was stabbed several times early Sunday morning survived the attack and is recovering.
Ernie Drake, 21, was attacked around 5 a.m. at his apartment, 2908 Doralane Ave., Police Chief John Ball said Monday. Officers received a report of the stabbing at 5:23 a.m. and were dispatched to Western Plains Medical Complex, where Drake was taken for treatment.
A hospital spokeswoman said she could not release information about Drake's condition.
Ball said Drake's attackers had broken into his apartment, but he declined to comment on the circumstances beyond that.
"That's something that investigation and court will bring out," he said. "We're not going to discuss motive or anything like that in the media."
Ball said police have not definitely identified a suspect or suspects, but they are looking at several "persons of interest" in the case. He defined the term "person of interest" as someone whom police believe committed the crime, but they do not yet have enough evidence to prove it.
Ball said he did not think the victim and his attackers were acquainted.
