In a break with tradition, Freya Study Club held an evening meeting on March 16 with spouses and invited guests. The event was held in the Dankert Room at the Butler Community College Welcome Center with Great Western Dining catering the meal. Hostesses for the event were Jennifer Callaway, Lauren Davis, Robyn Dick and Nancy King. Janice Jones gave the invocation prior to the meal. The tables were decorated cleverly in a football theme. Mathew Mount from Wichita presented the program. He has been a college football referee for thirteen years and is presently officiating in the CFO West group which includes the Big 12, Mountain West and Southland Conferences. Referees progress to bigger conferences and more money by their performance and the availability of a position. To make the split second decisions a referee has to make requires hours and hours of training. Each call a college referee makes is graded by a NFL referee. The presentation was very informative and gave a little different perspective to the job of making split second decisions. Mount reminded everyone that the guys in striped shirts have feelings too. Those attending were: Dana and David Brooks, Jennifer Callaway, Barbara and Ted Dankert and guests Kevin, Cindy and Kyle Koehler, Lauren and Dan Davis, Robyn and Gary Dick, Fata and Tom Hand, Jo Hess and guests, Pat and Harriet Brazil, Bobbie and Alan Jaax, Sheila and Phil Johnson, Janice and Terry Jones, Elaine and Tim Murphy, Marlene and Wayne Rethman, Janice and Mal Shaffer, LaDonna and Lonnie Snook, Jann Ziegler and guest, Hap McLeod.
