Dodge City —

Dodge City Lions Club
On Wednesday, July 30, the Dodge City Lions Club met at Casey’s Cowtown for its regular noon meeting. Our featured guests were rodeo clowns Bobby Green and Dwayn Stephens, along with the rodeo clown reunion Chair, Gail Woerner.
Woerner informed those attending that the clown reunions started in Roseburg, Ore., in 1974. In 1993, they began meeting every other year during rodeos in the central United States. This year, they are meeting here during the Dodge City Days Roundup Rodeo.
Woerner talked about the history of rodeo clowning. They started out doing everything from entertainment to bull fighting. Nowadays, they tend to perform specialized functions. Still, it is their job to provide light-hearted and funny entertainment on one hand, while performing the serious task of keeping the bull riders safe. Both Green and Stephens have been injured many times while distracting bulls away from the bull riders. They have saved many lives.
The Dodge City Lions Club next meeting will be at noon Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Casey’s Cowtown. We invite anyone from the community who is interested in serving the community or wants to enjoy a lunch with our fellowship.
