Writers receiving awards in the 2008 Literary Contest conducted by District 7 of the Kansas Authors Club were announced at a meeting held in Garden City on April 26. A total of 28 entries were received in Prose and Poetry Categories.
Listed in alphabetical order, the winners are:
Amy Becker, Offerle, third place prose for the first chapter of her book and Second Honorable Mention Poetry for free verse and second place for haiku.
Clay Davis, Phoenix, Ariz. and Shields in prose: Second Place for the first chapter of a book.
Joel S. Herndon, Dighton, first place in prose for the first chapter of a book.
Lorena Joyce Hermann, Offerle, in prose: Second place short fiction, first place in feature article, first and second for memoir, first and second in inspiration. In poetry: Third place for rhymed verse, first honorable mention for free verse; first place for narrative verse; first honorable mention for whimsy and first and third place for haiku.
Rose Klenke, Spearville, in poetry: First place for rhymed verse.
Barbara Lamborn, Sublette, in Poetry: Second and first honorable mention for rhymed verse, first, second and third place for free verse; first and second place for whimsy.
This years judges were Cindi Christopher of Bucklin for poetry and Dee Stoecker of Dodge City for prose.
