Dodge City —

    Harriet A. Wells Phelps has received a doctor of psychology degree in marriage and family therapy from The Graduate Theological Foundation South Bend, Ind. Commencement took place May 2 at the Century Center’s Bendix Theatre, South Bend. 
    Phelps completed her doctoral work through The Heibert Institute in Rock Island, Ill. The GTF awards academic degrees through a variety of academic institutions and training institutes worldwide. The foundation offers a variety of specialties including counseling, marriage and family, and leadership development. Phelps’ project was completed at the GTF Institute in Personal Meaning and Spiritual Wholeness.
    Phelps graduated from Dodge City High School in 1968.  She holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish from St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa, and a master’s in social work from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She holds certifications as a certified employee assistance professional, a forensic addictions examiner and a child custody evaluator.   She is in private practice and the owner of Employee and Family Counseling Center LLC in Davenport, Iowa. 
    Phelps is married to Ted J. Phelps, and she is the daughter of the late Harry L. Wells and Mary Wells Orr (Jack). Families in the southwest Kansas area are Robert and Carla Wells, Lakin; Doris Phelps, Shawn and Amber Harmon, Cimarron; Fran and John Engelke, Belpre; and Mickey and Lori Gechter, Scott City.
