A male second-grade student at Beeson Elementary School was found with a knife Wednesday afternoon, the second instance at the school in two weeks involving a student with a weapon.

With several hard-core storms sweeping into the area, May is certainly earning its name as Kansas' extreme weather month.
Thursday evening saw storms cutting a wide swath across southwestern Kansas, including heavy-hit areas like Jetmore, said Larry Ruthi, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Dodge City.
Over 1400 people braved the cool weather to participate in the Outdoor Kansas Kids day at Meade State Park on Saturday May 3. Children of all ages participated in sandcastle building, fishing, archery, wing shooting, crafts, treasure hunts and many more activities.
Jesse Ontiberos, Jr. a local Dodge City man, who has been paralyzed for 30-plus years; had been hospitalized in Wichita since Feb. 27 until his recent release.
