The developer of the Spearville wind farm received permission Monday to turn the second phase of the project over to Kansas City Power and Light when it is finished.
The Ford County Commission voted 3-0 Monday to transfer enXco Service Corp.'s conditional use permit for the second phase of the wind farm, but not the third phase, over to KCPL. Additionally, the commission approved a special events permit allowing enXco to store up to 32 complete wind generators at the facility.
The commission acted on a recommendation from the Ford County Zoning Board, which voted 3-0 last month to recommend approval of the transfer.
EnXco will oversee construction of the second phase of the wind farm, then turn the completed project over to KCPL, Ford County Administrator Ed Elam told the Globe on Tuesday.
    In other business, the commission:
    • Accepted Eric Molitor's resignation as a Wheatland Township trustee and appointed Rean Stegman to replace him.
    • Appointed Commissioner John Swayze to the Southwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center Advisory Board.
    • Honored several employees for 10 to 25 years of service to the county.
The 10-year honorees were Capt. Ruth Divelbiss, Ford County Sheriff's Office; Kevin Rabe and Kevin Halling, Fire/EMS; Angela Elder, Ford County Health Department; Mary Jo Bunnell, appraiser's office; and William D. Larman, administrative services.
Those with 15 years of service were Sheriff's Sgt. Shanon Lee; Tim Rabe, Martin Warnke and Layton Whipple, Fire/EMS; and Janice Huslig with the health department.
Capt. Bryan Burgess was honored for 25 years of service to the sheriff's office.
