Power in America is supposed to rest with ordinary citizens, not with the government, said Sen. Tim Huelskamp.
"When that connection is lost — when, as Reagan says, when we the people lose control of the government — we've lost control of 200 years of history, a proud history," he said Wednesday, referring to former President Ronald Reagan.
Huelskamp, who will run for Congress in November 2010, addressed a small group of people during a taxpayer "tea party" rally outside the Ford County Government Center. The event, one of several across the state, was intended to protest the federal economic stimulus package and encourage participants to get involved in politics.
