Ford County Attorney Terry Malone has obtained a subpoena giving a Daily Globe reporter four and a half business days to appear before District Judge Daniel Love and surrender her notes from a jailhouse interview with Sam Bonilla, who is
charged with the Labor Day shootings in the Arkansas Riverbed.
Claire O'Brien was also subpoenaed to testify about details contained in an Oct. 7 Daily Globe story about the Bonilla case. All but a fraction of the information in that story was obtained in the jailhouse interview, but a couple of statements were attributed to sources who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity.
The subpoena ordered O'Brien to testify at an inquisition Tuesday afternoon in Ford County District Court. An inquisition is a court-ordered examination of witnesses under oath, and it is commonly used as an investigative tool to establish the basis of criminal charges.
