Dodge City —

After three and a half years at the helm of the Daily Globe, Publisher David Meadows is saying good-bye.
Meadows is taking a job as publisher of the Russellville (Ark.) Courier, which has a daily circulation of 10,000 and a Sunday circulation of 12,000. His last day at the Globe is May 28, and he will start his new job June 9.
"The opportunity in Arkansas is one that allows me to pursue my career ambitions and, at the same time, gets us much closer to family, something that is important to me," he said Tuesday in a statement. "The wonderful people we've met (in Dodge City) and call our friends will make leaving very difficult for my family and me."
Meadows was the general manager at the Topeka Capital-Journal before joining the Globe, where he replaced former Publisher Terry Cochran in September 2004.
He said he was extremely proud of the Globe and the progress it has made, which he attributed to the newspaper's entire staff.
"They have always been committed to giving the community their best each day," Meadows said. "I've been fortunate to have worked with them the past three and a half years."
Gloria Fletcher, vice president/division manager for GateHouse Media, said in a statement that she was sorry to see Meadows leave but glad that he and his family were excited about moving to Arkansas. She added that she wished him well.
The Globe's advertising director, Darrel Adams, will serve as the interim publisher.
"This is a great opportunity for me that wouldn't have been possible without the great staff we have here and the community that has partnered with us over the last four years while I was advertising director," Adams said.
Adams has previous experience as a publisher, having held that position at the Wellington Daily News for 1 1/2 years before becoming the Globe's advertising director in March 2004. He has been with GateHouse Media, the Globe's parent company, for three years.
Fletcher said she was pleased that Adams would be leading the Globe.
"Darrel is a knowledgeable newspaper man and, as a Kansas native, has a passion for Dodge City and the surrounding region," she said. "He has been a joy to work with over the past several months."
