Congressman Jerry Moran announced Tuesday that Dodge City Regional Airport has received a $134,750 grant to expand the aircraft rescue and firefighting building. Funding comes from the Airport Improvement Program, which is administered through the Federal Aviation Administration.
"Keeping air travelers and cargo safe is a top priority," Moran said in a statement. "This grant will ensure first responders and their equipment are adequately housed and ready to respond."
Dodge City and Ford County applied for assistance through the Airport Improvement Program, which reinvests revenues collected from the aviation industry and air travelers to improve the capacity and safety of U.S. airports, Moran said in a press release.
The city has already begun work on the engineering and design of the building. City Clerk Nannette Pogue said the city had to have early designs worked up before it received the grant.
