Dodge City Days will get started off with a bang Friday night when Jo Dee Messina performs at the Q97’s Boots, Beer & Bikinis Beach Party concert. Messina will be performing several of her all-time favorite hits, as well as a few singles from her upcoming album, Unmistakable, which is set for release later this year.
The country singer-songwriter has had nine No. 1 singles on the Billboard Country Music charts during her career. Messina was also the first female country artist to have three multiple-week No. 1 songs from the same album.
Messina has performed in Kansas several times, but this will be her first concert in Dodge City.
DG: How did you decide to perform in Dodge City?
JDM: They asked if I could come and I was available, so I said, Absolutely, I'll come put on a show for you guys.
DG: What has been one of your favorite concert moments?
JDM: I have so much fun every time I walk on stage, so it's hard to pick just one. A few that stick out are when we went to Washington D.C. for the fourth of July and my first headline tour "Burn." That was a lot of fun.
DG: What are some of the songs you'll be performing on Friday night?
JDM: We try to put something in there for everybody. We'll play some hits and a few new songs. I just completed a new album called Unmistakable (coming out later this year). So if you go to the concert, you'll get a sneak peek.
DG: What songs do you enjoy performing the most? Are there any crowd favorites?
JDM: It depends on the day. The crowd is different every time; it's interesting to see what the crowd is going to react to.
DG: Which musical artists influence you?
JDM: I'm inspired by anybody. I listen to a lot of stuff from James Taylor to Pink. All music is inspiring.
DG: What is your touring schedule like this year?
JDM: We play pretty much year round. We go to a lot of casinos and arenas in the winter, and then it's fairs and festivals in the summertime.
DG: What's next for you?
JDM: We'll be going to Montana, Wyoming, Massachusetts and California.
DG: Anything else you'd like to tell your fans in Dodge City?
JDM: Come on down! It will be fun.
