The Ford County Commission agreed Monday to support an application for a $15 million federal loan for a cheese-processing plant in Dodge City.
Dodge City Cheese Inc.'s application for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Recovery Zone bonds is due by Dec. 14, and the award will be announced Jan. 30.
The bonds will be part of an $85 million package to finance construction of the plant, located at the old Dodge City/Chaffin Industrial Park on the eastern edge of town.
The company plans to issue the bonds in the first quarter of 2010 and apply the proceeds to construction of the plant, according to information supplied by Dodge City Cheese Inc. Construction is expected to take about 18 months, and the plant would be running at full capacity within six months after it is completed.
