Armed forces salute set for today

Dodge City —

    A salute to America's armed forces is set for today under the big tent in the Dodge House parking lot, 2408 W. Wyatt Earp Blvd.
    The lineup of activities includes:
    • Music by the Sandhill River Band with special guests Ben Boling, Big John Smith, the classic rock band  "Thief" and others, including patriotic music.
    • Tributes to America's soldiers and veterans. The U.S. Marines will hold the flag while the national anthem is sung at 6 p.m., followed by patriotic music and singers.
    • The Longhorn Steakhouse and Saloon, which is hosting the event, will be selling calf fries, beef kabobs, barbecue sandwiches and hamburgers.
    • A beer garden, entertainment, food and fun.
    The gate opens at 4 p.m., and the price of admission is $6. Part of the admission fee will be donated to the American Legion Legacy Fund, which distributes college funds to the children of fallen soldiers and provides help to the families for educational purposes.
    Men and women in the armed forces are invited to attend the event so they may be thanked for their service.
    Anyone who participates in the Patriot Guard, the American Legend Legacy Riders, Law Dogs, ABATE, the HOG chapters or anyone else who rides to assemble and ride, displaying the American flag and ending in the parking lot to join the celebration.
