The Dodge City Fire Department were dispatched to 2501 Post Ave. at 3:11 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a house fire that caused extensive damage to the residence.

"We are still investigating the cause of the fire," DCFD Fire Chief Robert Heinz said. "The house was occupied with at least six people that were treated for minor injuries.

"However, three dogs did not make it but we were able to save the family's cat."

Heinz added that when fire units arrived at the scene, it took approximately 30 to 40 minutes to get the fire under control.

"We were finished by about 6 a.m.," Heinz said. "The house had severe smoke and heat damage in the living room all the way through to the exterior of the back of the house."
