Cosmetology school offers prom makeovers.

Prom season comes with a lot of preparation. Especially if you’re a girl, planning for hair, makeup and nails can be a real hassle.

The Dodge City High School prom is tomorrow, which means the clock is ticking for students who haven’t made plans/appointments for their prom needs.

The Dodge City Community College cosmetology program is offering affordable makeovers tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to students attending prom this weekend.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity for the students,” said Julie Taylor-Birney, director of cosmetology at DC3. “We have appointments available still and so we would love students to fill them in so that everybody gets an opportunity to get some hands-on (experience) with being able to help meet all those prom needs.”

The program is offering hair styling for $15 to $25, pedicures for $15, manicures for $12 and makeup starting at $12.

Taylor-Birney stated that the cosmetology program has offered prom makeovers to high school students in the past.

“It’s been quite a few years since we’ve done something like this,” she said. “This is the first time in a long time that we’ve been able to offer something like this again.”

Though there are still appointments available, Taylor-Birney anticipates that the salon will be very busy.

‘Right now we’ve got quite a few appointments already scheduled,” said Taylor-Birney. “I’ve got the students getting word out there via Facebook and word-of-mouth to their friends and family and letting them know to come in.”

Taylor-Birney stressed that her students are talented and very capable of meeting the needs of these high school students.

“Our students are awesome, they do a great job,” said Taylor-Birney. “We’ve got very great talent here and sometimes there’s that stigma of cosmetology school, but these guys are awesome.”
