For decades, Eisenhower Park has been a fixture in downtown Dodge City being host to several events as recent as the annual Movies in the Park.

Now there are plans to begin renovating the park with a much-needed improvement plan according to design committee chairwoman Melissa McCoy.

"A few years ago we looked at the park and wanted to come up with more ways to make it more attractive," McCoy said. "We wanted to come up with e conceptual design within a budget for the improvements."

This Friday, the Mingling for Main pub crawl will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. with funds from the event going towards Dodge City Main Street for the Eisenhower Park improvement project.

"With part of our mission of Dodge City Area Young Professionals to help make the Dodge City area the best place to live, serve, work and play, we decided to host Mingling for Main, a fun, social event that would raise funds for Dodge City Main Street for the Eisenhower Park renovation," Dodge City Area Young Professionals co-chairman Cori Tagtmeyer said. "Eisenhower Park, located at First and Gunsmoke, has served as a gathering space in the downtown district for more than 30 years.

"Over time, several of the amenities of the park have begun to diminish, making the park less desirable.

"The planned improvements include shade sails around the edges, new benches, several upgrades to the existing shelter, and landscape improvements."

The route for the pub crawl will be between Central Station, Guymon Petro Bar and Grill and Boot Hill Distillery.

"Buses donated by Central Station will run continuously from 6 to 9 p.m. between the three locations," Tagtmeyer said. "There will be free appetizers, giveaways and drink specials.

"Eisenhower Park is a park that is used for many free events. One thing that sparked interest with the Dodge City Area Young Professionals board, is the park is currently used to play free movies for a fun, family night and we liked that we could host a fun social event that raised funds to better a free family hangout area in our downtown area.

"We are also raising money during the Mingling for Main event to benefit recent USD 443 families who were impacted by the recent wildfire."

Registration fees are $25 per person in advance or $30 per person the day of.

"The renovations are also being funded with grants from the Mariah Fund and Victory Electric gave us a grant as well," McCoy said. "There are also plans to add an artificial lawn to the park for green space. There will also be pad sites for vendors events to make the area more welcoming.

"In all right now we are about $40-$50,000 short of getting the project done."
