The Dodge City Family YMCA has a fun night of activities and games in store for Saturday night as they host another lock-in for kids in the community.

“I wanted to start a program that provides a safe environment for the youth,” said organizer Cassie Roths. “It’s nice to be able to have a lock-in with friends and to get to know more youth around the community.”

The night will begin at 7 p.m. in the gym where the kids will get to enjoy some games and jumping in the bouncy house.

Next, the fun moves to the pool for a swim party.

“We will serve snacks in the evening and breakfast in the morning,” said YMCA branch executive director Jackie Regan. “We will then settle down for a movie, they will pick between ‘Moana’ or ‘Sing.’”

Snacks include cookies and trail mix with juice or water and breakfast will include doughnuts, apples and oranges with milk, juice or water.

According to Roths, this isn’t the first lock-in that the YMCA has hosted.

“We had our first lock-in on New Year’s, which served 11 students,” said Roths. “We would like to have four lock-ins a year.”

The cost of the lock-in is $30 for childcare participants, $40 for members and $60 for program participants.

All children are required to bring their own pillow, sleeping bag, swimming suit, towel, toothbrush and toothpaste and a change of clothes.
