A two-vehicle accident on Highway 283 about 5 miles south of Dodge City on Saturday sent one man to the hospital with injuries.

According to the Kansas State Patrol, Sergio Virachack, 28, of Dodge City, was driving southbound on the highway when his Ford Escape moved across the center line and hit the trailer of a semi heading northbound.

Virachack’s vehicle ended up in the east-side ditch with heavy damage to the front end. According to reports, the Ford County Fire Department and EMS had to extricate Virachack from the vehicle as he was pinned inside.

EMS transported Virachack to Western Plains Medical Complex. There are no reports on his condition.

Bryan Abbott, 50, of Minneola, was the driver of the semi and was not injured. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

No charges have been filed in the accident. Some reports suggested Virachack had been texting at the time of the accident, but the Daily Globe has been unable to confirm that.
