Today is the primary election for the Dodge City Community College Board of Trustees.

Out of the potential 15 candidates only eight will move on to the general election in November.

Then after the general election the top four spots will be named to the board of trustees where they will serve a 4-year term.

The DCCC board will have four available positions including the newly approved seventh seat to the board.

Morris Reeves, Merrill Conant and Gary Harshberger will be running for re-election.

The following will be running for the DCCC board: Norman D. Peterson, Anthony F. Bartello, Michael G. Benish, Sara Howard, Kathy A. Ramsour, Nick Wells, Bill Hammond, Nancy Sapp, Pete Weil, Mia Schrader Korbelik, John E. Thomas and Dan Reichenborn.

The election has seen an influx in information and advertisements regarding the sale of 3.1 acres of college land to the city of Dodge City for retail development.

The land sale will have been completed by the time the current candidates take office in January 2018 but it has caused a divide amongst some of the candidates.

There have been candidates claiming that college land is still up for sale on the 14th Avenue frontage however city officials have repeatedly stated that once the 3.1 acres was approved, the rest of the college land was taken off the Star Bonds project.

Polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. And those voting are reminded to bring a government issued photo ID.
