HILLSBORO, Kan. — The Dodge City women's soccer team won its first game of the year on Wednesday night, defeating Tabor College, 3-0. The men ended their first competition tying the Blue Jays, 0-0.
Liliana Vasquez made a great pass to Siobhan Longmore who sent a cross into the box to Kasandra Herrera who put the ball into the back of the net to start the scoring.
Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the first half, but the Conqs were able to extend the lead to 2-0 on a corner kick from Begona Rodriguez Bravo that was struck into the back of the net by Longmore.
Dodge City continued to add to their lead in the second half. Longmore sent a pass to Rodriguez Bravo in the final third who put the ball into the side net and gave the Conqs a 3-0 win.
"I’m very proud of this team," head women’s coach Steward Bortey said. "We fought for every goal we scored. We kept our composure when things were not going our way. It’s a first of many wins to come. We look to continue to fight for every win. I’m proud to be the head coach of this team. It’s a great day to be a Conquistador."
The men battled throughout the game, but were not able to get the win, but were able to hold the Blue Jays scoreless with the game ending in a tie, 0-0.
The women are now 1-0 and the men are 0-0-1. The women will play again today at Johnson County Community College, while the men will play on Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan.
