Females in the area are about to get an offer for free.

A Computer Skills Training Course is being offered by the Women of Inspiration Fund of the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas as one of the projects to accomplish the goals of the fund — to encourage, enlighten and enrich lives of women in southwest Kansas.

The 5-week Computer Skills Training Course is being taught by a qualified computer instructor from the Dodge City Community College and will be taught in the computer classroom at the college. The course will be on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning October 5 and ending November 2.

The course is offered at no cost to women enrolling in the course. All materials are provided, including computers.

"We have no restrictions on any woman who wishes to attend," said Margaret Hamilton with Community Foundation. "A couple of years ago we had 47 women in the class and we just divided them in to two different classes.

"We don’t turn away any woman for any reason."

To participate in this opportunity to learn or improve computer skills, simply complete an Application/Enrollment Form provided at the Community Foundation Office, 208 W. Wyatt Earp, Suite 200, or call 620-225-0950. Application/Enrollment Forms will also be located at City of Dodge City offices, Dodge City Library, Dodge City/Area Chamber of Commerce, Crisis Center, Catholic Social Services and Victory Electric Cooperative.

"We provide applications throughout the city," Hamilton said. "It makes it easier for women of the community to find one and to fill one out if they are in more than one location."

The Application/Enrollment Form must be submitted to the Community Foundation Office by September 27 to be in the class.

"We’re happy to offer this to any woman who wants to improve her computer skills," Hamilton said. "Younger or senior citizen, it doesn’t matter, it’s free and we want all women who want to learn to sign up."
