The highways in and around Ford County have had two fatality crashes within days of each other this week.

The first came on Monday along Highway 56 where a Montezuma man died from his injuries.

On Tuesday, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported a fatality crash on Highway 54 near mile post 74.2 just 8.3 miles northeast of Minneola in Ford County.

The report indicated the crash took place around 6:20 a.m.

According to the KHP, Andrew L Manning, 34, from Wichita and Ashiona J. Hollingsworth, 27, from Winfield, were traveling westbound on Highway 54 in their 2016 Ford F150 truck.

The pair were in the eastbound lane while a 2015 Freightliner semi was traveling eastbound as well.

Both vehicles struck head on and came to rest in the south shoulder of the highway.

The semi was driven by James J. Kopp, 72, from Albert Lea, Minnesota, along with passenger Tommy L. Wilkie, 58, from Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Manning and Hollingsworth were declared dead from the crash while Kopp and Wilkie were both taken to Minneola District Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

All occupants of the vehicles were wearing seat belts except Wilkie according to the KHP report.
