Folk music will be coming to the Dodge City Civic Center Thursday as Grammy award winning The New Christy Minstrels kick off the Dodge City Community Concert Association season.

"New Christy Minstrels play folk music with songs such as 'This Land if Your Land' and other Earthy down-home kinds of music," said community concert association president Julie Ellis. "It is family entertainment geared towards live entertainment to the community not just for Dodge City but for southwest Kansas."

Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults, $5 for students or $45 for family tickets for non-members.

Discount prices are available for community concert association members.

A single membership is $40, $90 for family and $10 for students that will be for the four concerts this season.

"We also have our reciprocity agreements," Ellis said. "If anyone becomes a member they will also be able to concert association concerts in Liberal, Pratt, Garden City and Great Bend."

The New Christy Minstrels were founded in 1961 by Randy Sparks.

The folk band has gone on to record more than 20 albums since their inception, winning a Grammy in 1962 for their debut album, "Presenting The New Christy Minstrels."

The Grammy was for Best Performance by a Chorus pop at the 1963 Grammy Awards.
