There may be some verbal bombs dropped tonight at Dodge City Community College’s Little Theater.

The college — along with the Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce — is hosting a candidate forum for DCCC Board of Trustees candidates. The race has been the most heated race of the 2017 election.

Kathy Ramsour, incumbent Gary Harshberger, incumbent Merrill Conant, Pete Weil, Mia Schraeder Korbelik, Bill Hammond and incumbent Morris Reeves are vying for four seats on the board. The board is expanding to seven members. The top four vote-getters are elected.

The forum takes place from

7 to 8:30 p.m.

Each candidate will be given a brief time at the beginning of the forum to introduce themselves.

The moderator for the event, former district judge Dan Love, will rotate which candidate answers first to ensure the same person is not always the first or last to respond. Candidates will be given 1 and a half minutes to respond to each question. Lastly, candidates will be given 1 and a half minutes for a closing statement. These timeframes will be strictly enforced to ensure the forum remains within the allotted time.

Candidates will answer questions submitted to the chamber and there will be questions accepted from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the Little Theater. Candidates will also answer questions from DCCC students associated with student government, nursing and international club.

"The chamber is very excited to partner with Dodge City Community College, Rocking M Media and the Dodge City Daily Globe on the board of trustee candidate forum," said Tara Burkhart, chamber president. "It is important for community members to familiarize themselves with the candidates and their platforms and we feel the forum will provide that opportunity for Dodge City and Ford County residents."

Several college issues have recently made headlines — the Kansas Board of Regents investigation into misuse of federal grant money, the investigation into former administrator Danny Gillum, the Higher Learning Commission requirements for faculty and the upcoming accreditation meeting — which may or may not be addressed at the forum.

The candidate forum will be broadcasted live on Super Hits 95.5 FM and 1470 AM.
