The Dodge City Community College volleyball team fell to Hutchinson Community College in three sets on Monday on the Conqs' Pink Night. The Conquistadors lost by scores of 19-25, 20-25, 17-25.
Dodge City came out strong in the first set, taking an early 4-2 lead on back-to-back attacking errors by Hutchinson. The Blue Dragons then took an 8-7 lead and went on a 5-0 run that was ended by a kill from Gabriella Valdez to give Hutch a 15-10 lead. The Conqs were able to then scored four straight to cut the lead to 23-19 late in the set, but the Blue Dragons scored the next two points to win, 25-19.
Again in set two, the Conqs took an early lead and eventually extended it to a 15-9 lead after a back-to-back 4-0 runs. After pushing the lead to 18-13, the Blue Dragons started a comeback, eventually tying the game at 20. With the score tied at 20, Hutchinson scored the final five points to win set two, 25-20.
Set three was a different story, as the Blue Dragons took an early lead and never looked back. Hutch took a 7-2 lead, forcing Dodge City to take their first timeout. Back-to-back attacking errors by Hutchinson cut the lead to three, but they quickly pushed the lead back to six, 19-13. The closest that the Conqs got late in the set was four, but the Blue Dragons kept firing, winning set three 25-17.
The Conqs are now 16-13 on the year and will be in action again on Wednesday, Oct. 18 against Pratt Community College before coming home on Friday for Sophomore night.
