Two undefeated duos led the Dodge City High School debate team in the Western Kansas Debate Coaches Tournament Saturday in Ulysses.

The team overall won its third sweepstakes title of the season with 10 of the Demon Debaters posting winning records earning nine medals.

In the Open Division, the team of Amber Nilhas and Daniel Soriano led the way for DCHS while Hever Arjon and Marcos Hernandez led in the Novice Division.

Both teams went undefeated in their classification for the second time this year giving DCHS a mark of 14-1 overall in the sweepstakes.

Runner-up Liberal ended the day with a mark of 8-7.

Taking second place in the Open Division were the team of Josh Habiger and Viridiana Arias with a 4-1 record on the day.

Posting 3-2 marks were fourth place finishers Roxana Arjon and Christian Garcia; fifth place finishers Oyuki Camacho and Amy Soberanes and  sixth place finishers Kerry Garcia and Caleb Boys.

The Demon Debaters claimed four of the top six medals in the Novice Division.

Coming in second place behind Arjon and Hernandez was the team of Deymi Martinez and Allondre Valle, who placed second at 4-1 with 19 speaker points.

Fourth place went to the team of Mariela Lopez and Jamie Diell who went 4-1 on the day with 21 speaker points while fifth place went to the team of Devin Quinones and Kale Lowery with a 4-1 standard and 23 speaker points.

Finishing just outside of medal contention was the team of Brian Nguyen and Amy Sameniego who posted a 3-2 record.

This Saturday the team will be traveling to Wichita for the Crusader Classic held at Trinity Catholic Academy.
