The Dodge City Red Demons football team faces its last regular-season test tonight against the Liberal Redskins in Dodge City, Kansas.

It is, however, just one of many compelling football games going on in the area tonight. Here are a couple of others which might be worth watching.

Spearville at Wichita County - Leoti

The Lancers head to Leoti, Kansas, located about two hours away from Dodge City and Spearville, to take on the Wichita County Indians.

Spearville head football coach and athletic director Matt Fowler said the Indians are a young team, one definitely building for the future. They are coming off a 66-58 shootout win over Kinsley High School last week, but 3-4 overall. They do, however, have good size, Fowler said.

Additionally, the Lancers are struggling with some injuries right now.

“Hopefully we can get some kids that can step up and do a good job for us,” Fowler said.

Despite the injuries, however, Spearville continues to play well. The Lancers are 7-0, coming off wins 58-8 against Ness City two weeks ago, and 64-16 against Satanta. After playing Wichita County, they will return home to play Kinsley Oct. 26.

Spearville takes on Wichita County at 7 p.m. tonight at Wichita County High School.

Cimarron at Syracuse (Kansas)

The Cimarron Bluejays head to Syracuse, Kansas, a town just west of Lakin, to take on the the Syracuse Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have won two straight after losing four of their first five this season. The Bluejays, meanwhile, are coming off beating their last two opponents by a combined score of 62-14, including a 32-8 victory over Lakin last week.

Cimarron athletic director David Ediger said he thinks the Bluejays will win if they go in and take care of business the way they should. Looking at records and common-opponents, Ediger said he sees this game as winnable.

“They’re pretty young and inexperienced,” Ediger said.

Still, the Bulldogs will play hard, he said.

The Bluejays take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. tonight at Syracuse High School in Syracuse, Kansas.
