Amerigroup Kansas recently presented a grant of $5,000 towards the Community Housing Association of Dodge City for the Community Home Renovation Program.

The grant is the first from Amerigroup to go to the program.

"A board member of CHAD suggested that we apply for the grant," said Dodge City special projects coordinator Mollea Wainscott. "After researching the Amerigroup Kansas grant program, I found their mission aligns with our Community Home Renovation Program.

"I plan on applying for the grant next year as well."

According to Wainscott, the renovation program was originally funded by Black Hills Energy and the Amerigroup grant added to those funds. "This has no relationship with the Rural Housing Incentive District," Wainscott said. "The renovation program has installed an air conditioner unit, replaced a roof, replaced windows, replaced stairs and replaced rotting siding and trim.

"The repairs enhance the value and prolong the lifespan of homes while improving the neighborhoods."

The Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation began the CHAD program to address the housing needs in Dodge City and CHAD is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

"This program has been a success," Wainscott said. "I am currently looking for other sources of funding to continue this program and we are currently accepting applications to be put on a waiting list until more funding is available."
