CIMARRON — A new salon and spa experience is coming to southwest Kansas.

Opening today, Olive and Ivy Salon and Spa, located at 112 Main Street in Cimarron, is tapping in to an untouched market in the area according to spa manager and coordinator Kiesha Carmona.

"We are offering a unique spa setting that is secluded with soundproof walls and glass so that no one getting service will hear the upbeat environment from the salon in front," she said. "We offer hair, bridal, special events, makeup, spa mani and pedi, facials, Aveda fusion and stone massages.

"We will have package deals and group deals for local businesses for holidays along with a number of promotions."

The grand opening will be today at 5:30 p.m. and will have door prizes, a tour and snacks.

"They gutted and demolished one of the old buildings and rebuilt it," Carmona said. "We have investors that have put up close to a million dollars.

"We will be taking on lots of employees and clients."

Olive and Ivy Salon and Spa is owned by Kim Mawhirter, who has been a stylist for 16 years, who, along with five other women, will be doing hair.

The spa will also provide services with Aveda products and as well as sell Aveda products.

"We will offer a brow specialist and do lash lift and body wraps," Carmona said. "All packages will come with the spa steam room and shower and full services will be available starting Thursday with bookings starting today.

"Kim, Dee Rosenbaum and I will run the entire thing.

"We have a staff of about 15 right now with room to grow.

"We are looking for a full-time nail tech and another part-time massage therapist and a part-time receptionist."

Olive and Ivy Salon and Spa will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
