It was at the Hoxie Halloween Debate Festival where the Dodge City High School debate team claimed their seventh straight top two finish.

Out of the 10 schools that participated, the Demon Debaters finished tied for first place with Great Bend, but was narrowly defeated in the tie-breaker with Nickerson taking third place.

There were only three DCHS debate teams that competed with two of the teams finishing with a 4-1 record.

The tie-breaker came down to speaker points which gave Great Bend the two point advantage.

The team of Alexa Martinez and Hever Arjon led the way for Dodge City placing second in the novice division.

After rallying back with four straight wins, the team stumbled in their opening round which was the first blemish of the year for Arjon after 15 straight wins this season.

In the varsity division, the team of Roxana Arjon and Christian Garcia, posted a 4-1 record on the day placing fourth.

Th team of Allie Gier and Josh Harshberger finished the day outside of medal contention.

Because it was a Halloween debate festival, particpants were able to dress in costumes while competing and the team of Hever Arjon and Martinez won the award for best team costume with Gier winning second place in the individual costume contest.

The debate team will be heading to Garden City this week to compete in the Buffalo Invitational.
