Ever wondered what it would be like to deliver presents around the world as Santa Claus? Now you can find out.

A 3-minute Virtual Reality Santa Sleigh Ride is coming to Dodge City and will be available to those attending the Parade of Lights and Annual Chili Cook-Off on Monday, Nov. 27.

"We were searching for something new and different for the Parade of Lights," said Jerri Imgarten of the Parade of Lights Committee. "We had someone call us from a Wakeeney event and telling us about this virtual reality ride.

"We checked it out and got it here."

The ride consists of moving seats in a trailer. Patrons wear virtual reality headgear and the seat moves during the 3-minute presentation.

"Thanks to sponsorship from Dodge City Community College, Lewis Automotive Group, Dodge City/Ford County Development Corporation and Victory Electric, the rides are free," Imgarten said. "We wanted something that would enhance the Parade of Lights and Chili Cook-Off and we just want to get the word out there that this will be here."

Promotional material states the ride will fly through the sky and will feature several holiday-decorated communities.

"I don’t think the seats move enough to make anyone sick," Imgarten said. "It should be a fun experience for everyone."

The Virtual Reality Santa Sleigh Ride will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. in front of Boot Hill Museum.

According to information provided by the committee, the Chili Cook-Off free sampling — which includes hot chocolate and cobbler, takes place at 5:30 p.m. Boot Hill is also offering a chance to visit Santa Claus in Santa’s House.

At 5:50 p.m. the city’s Christmas tree near the Visitor’s Center is lit by Dodge City Mayor Rick Sowers.

At 6 p.m. the annual Parade of Lights moves its way through the community.

The Parade of Lights and Chili Cook-Off are sponsored by Victory Electric, the Dodge City Daily Globe, Boot Hill Museum, City of Dodge City, Dodge City Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Dodge City and Dodge City Public Library.
