Despite leading for the entire first half, the Dodge City women's basketball team fell to Colby Community College on a buzzer-beater, 56-54 on Saturday night.
 
Dodge City came out hot as Addison Rowley knocked down her first shot of the game. The Conqs then scored the next five points to make the score 8-0 in the first three minutes of the game.
 
With just under five minutes to play, Colby was able to cut the lead to 12-8, but the Conqs then went on another 7-0 to push their lead to 19-8 with one minute to play in the quarter. With 30 seconds to play, Kaylee Dale grabbed a huge offensive rebound and finished a layup to push the lead to 21-11 by the end of the quarter.
 
Colby was able to start the second quarter on a 6-0 run forcing Dodge City to call a timeout. Dodge City then battled to end the half, getting the lead back to nine, but with 25 seconds left, the Trojans converted an unconventional three-point play to make the score 31-25 at the half.
 
Colby came out hot in the second half, cutting the lead to two, just two minutes into the third quarter. The Trojans continued to fight back, eventually grabbing the lead with 5:30 left in the third quarter, 39-38. By the end of the quarter, the Trojans had extended their lead to 49-45
 
Just a minute into the fourth quarter, the Conqs were able to tie the game at 49, but Rowley knocked down a shot from the elbow to give the lead back to Dodge City, 51-49. Scoring was at a minimum for the rest of the game, but Colby took the lead back with just over a minute to play, 54-53.
 
With 30 seconds left, Kyra Trice knocked down a free throw to tie the game at 54. After missing the next free throw, the Conqs turned the ball over, giving the ball back to Colby with 21.6 seconds. The Trojans then made a layup at the buzzer to win the game, 56-54.
 
Dodge City is now 4-3 overall on the year and 2-3 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Nov. 29, as they host Garden City Community College at 5:30 p.m.
