Xavier Alejandro Maestas, 20, was apprehended by members of the Dodge City Police Department, Ford County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation after a 4-month search.

Maestas had been wanted regarding an incident where he allegedly shot two adult males that were standing outside of a mobile home at 201 E. McArtor Road in Dodge City, on July 23.

According to the DCPD, the arrest stemmed from information that was provided by an anonymous public tip to the location of Maestas in the 200 block of West Oak Street, in Dodge City.

Maestas was taken into custody without any further incident.

In a press release regarding the shooting, Dodge City Police Chief Drew Francis said, "At around 2:40 a.m. on July 23, DCPD officers were dispatched to 201 E. McArtor where a reported shooting had taken place at one of the mobile homes.

"When officers arrived they found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds.

"During the investigation detectives determined the victims were standing outside the trailer when they were shot.

"Detectives were able to identify a suspect and an arrest warrant was issued."

Maestas has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, attempted murder in the second degree, aggravated assault; use of a deadly weapon and criminal discharge of a firearm; shooting into an occupied dwelling.

According to Ford County Attorney Kevin Salzman, the penalty for attempted murder in the first degree is a severity level I felony.

The low end penalty is 147 months in the Department of Corrections with 653 months as the maximum penalty based on previous criminal history.

The penalty for attempted murder in the second degree is a severity level 4 felony with the low end sentence being 38 months in DOC and a maximum sentence of 172 months based on previous criminal history. The DCPD wants to remind the public that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
