The weather in Dodge City may not know exactly what it is doing but one thing for sure is that cold weather is here, even if it comes and goes.

For residents who may be in need of warm clothing and blankets, the Dodge City Public Library is currently accepting donations of blankets and mittens to be donated to Genesis Family Health.

"The blankets can be new or clean gently used ones," said library director Brandon Hines in a press release. " People can bring them to the library and place them in the box by the tree close to the check-out desk.

"Genesis Family Health will then distribute them to their clients.

"Residents are also invited to help decorate the mitten tree.

"Each year the Credit Union of Dodge City sponsors the Coats for Kids project.

"To assist them the youth department collects mittens, caps and scarfs for children to go with the coats they receive."

Items can be taken into the library and placed on the tree as decorations.

"Jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts can also be brought and placed under the tree," Hines said. "When the tree comes down the items will be given to the Coats for Kids project to help keep the children warm."

Call the library at 620-225-0248 if you have questions on any of the projects.

Hines added, "Let’s all help make this a warm winter for the families in Dodge City."
